Pourquoi mes amis, pourquoi?

Great article by Jug Suraiya a couple of days ago in the Times of India. He was talking about an artist, his societal responsibilities, and the freedom of expression, the same discussion that Rachna, Vicksy and I were having in the library just before the Bioseparations minor II. I will post a link when it is put online.

The French have, meanwhile, rejected the EU constitution. Like in all cases, vox populi has nothing to do with the issues at hand, it is more a case of frustration with existing problems and the presumption that exercising of their rights will solve them. It is just like in India, where people vote for their caste, which is why I am governed by inefficient, incompetent jerks. Perhaps Plato was right in opposing democracy, for it brings equality among unequals.

The French sentiment is actually one shared in many parts of Europe. The Germans are still to wake up to the fact that the USSR has fallen, and that the Wall is no more there. People still differentiate between the osties and the westies, and don't want others to come in. The Dutch, I fear, are also going the anti-Islam way (since the van Gogh affair), and the French, already in trouble due to their pesudo-secular policies, are merely getting worse. This quest for independence and individuality is the bane of the west, just like the complete lack of individuality is the bane of the east (though this is changing now, but changing perhaps too rapidly). You cannot wall yourself in. If only the sons of the soil should be the sons of toil in France, then so be it, their economy will automatically get screwed, and implode when there are unable to find competitive markets.

International Diplomacy

The recent China-Japan squabble has given a new type of diplomacy - girl power (or the skirt factor, or should I say F-cup bra power?) There is apparently this 11 year old girl Japanese budding actress Saaya, whose bikini photos (a F-cup bra, to be more specific) are making the Chinese sit up (literally, perhaps?) and take notice. A message with the photos says that the Chinese should stop Anti-Japanese things, otherwise "if you don't, I won't like you anymore." But if the Chinese do stop, then her breasts will "rise up". (I am unable to figure out how, but that is what the message says).

Criticisms

This is a post criticizing all the protagonists of present day news.

Sunil dutt died earlier today. I think he was a better sports minister than an actor. Then again, I guess he would be better at anything than acting, he could not act. He was bad in his first films, he was bad in Munnabhai MBBS, the only movie he was remotely watchable in was Padosan.

Munnabhai MBBS, menawhile, is being made in English as Gangster MD.

Sania Mirza has lost in the first round of the French Open(As a matter of interest, Ganguly had gone to watch her play. What are u up to now, dada?). I am shocked. I am shocked to see her in the top 100 rankings, and I am shocked to see her play tennis. She has lost it too soon, courtesy The Times of India and other newspapers. Come on, she is no Sharapova (sadly). Just like they are doing to Narain Karthikeyan, who has taken over as the media bunny of F1. Some of his recent comments:

1) I am the fastest of all the debutants, so I am not doing too badly
2) Atleast I am better than my team mate
3) I am the fastest in my team.
4) I am very close to my team mate
5) I think Schumi has lost it (this was after the third race). Poor Schumi, surely he cannot be so unlucky .
6) (ad infinitum) I am better than my team mate (So much for winning friends and influencing people)

(Why do his comments remind me of those made by Mallika Sherawat, who, incidently, was looking extremely slutty in Cannes. Yes, slutty. She looked like those out of work prostitutes sitting in the miniscule chambers in Amsterdam. She did not look sexy, she looked disgusting.)

Meanwhile, Sachin has had another operation, which means he is out for 16 weeks. Sad. Much as he is out of form presently, it is the 5-7 overs that he is with Sehwag than are the most interesting parts of India's innings in any match.

Anyway, that is all for now.

Why?

It is hot. There is no water. The extremely low voltage negates the efficacy of any stabilizer invented in the history of mankind. The extreme low voltage also ensures that the only source of air is the fan. The fan merely recirculates the air already inthe room. The air already in the room is hot.

So, it is hot.

Anyway, as Swami says in Swami and Friends, I passed my courses, so I do not have to read the same courses again. I also have nothing to do in the break presently, since in a moment of inspirational genius, I decided not to apply for an internship this summer. Why? I do not know. If I actually knew the reason for my feelings, the deadman would no longer be me.

I wonder how my alma mater is doing. This thought process started after my CS210 major, when I was waiting for the great man (vicksy, who had turned up merely 90 min late for a 120 min exam), and met Anubhav, who merely enquired about the possibility of a reunion. This phrase ("Oye, what about a reunion") is equivalent to talking about the weather, the so called ice breaker of a conversation. It is what two 2001 entries (and I am sure the rest also, except the 2005 pass outs, who will speak of this next year onwards) talk about when they meet.

Meanwhile, the understanding of the bioleaching properties of microorganisms remains my immediate quest. All this, is, I am sure, necessary to segue into the field of environmental risk assessment and engineering (I am still not sure what I want to do, I am just waiting for it to strike me, like everything else does. Logically thinking out the solution to a problem, and I mean a real problem, not a mathematical one, has never been me. Kartik, I think it was, who said that I should quit thinking like an artist and start thinking like an engineer.).

So, here we go again. Lots of confusions, and even more questions. But all this has to happen. After all, it is only a storm that can clear things up.

Comments and anonymity

Swara had put his name on his comment, as Vicksy so kindly pointed out to me. And now, Vicksy also put his name on his comment. So the comments are no longer anonymous without a name.

The word anonymous always reminds me of the time when I was late for school assembly, and gave my name as anonymous to the girl who was suppossed to record the names of the late comers. It was an interesting dialogue:

(G: Girl recording names. M: Me)

G: What is your name?
M: Anonymous
G: How do you spell that?
M: (unable to believe my ears and my luck) A N O N Y M O U S.
G: Shakes her head wondering who could have such a name, and walks to the next person.

Later, the list was shown to Manisha Mitra, and well, she saw through it... but still, I have the satisfaction of having escaped two rounds of the fotball field.

Though it must be brought to notice that since there was nobody to watch anyone taking rounds of the football field, everyone usually ran away back to their classes anyway.
